计算机中最主要的储存设备。硬盘是安装在主机内不可移动的储存设备，容量大小可储存至数百GB的数据，速度也较软盘快。一般软盘机的转速为360r.p.m，现在的硬盘转速则高达5400~10000r.p.m。第一颗硬盘是于公元1956年由IBM所制造的Ramac，它由50个24'的磁盘构成，容量则只有5MB。Sector，扇区:软盘储存档案的基本单位，扇区大小为512 bytes。Track，磁道 :磁盘上依同心圆排列的格式化轨道。Cylinder，磁柱 : 在硬盘上每片磁盘片相同编号磁道的集合称为磁柱。
